Florentjin Hofman Giant Plushies

I would be joyously happy to have these Giant Plushies by Florentjin Hofman lying about my home!

Imagine: you open the door and and to unwind, you could just do a short sprint (high jump style) and *plonk* – you are engulfed in plush, cushiony goodness…

Anyway, these plushies belong to an art project entitled Dushi, where in exaggerating the scale of these cuddly childrens’ toys, he transcends them into sculptural elements . Other works of interests also include the quirky Canard De Bain (Rubber duck) or the very clever Spiegelwand (Mirror wall) -  a pannel of mirrors are inserted into a forest to shield the ramblers of the industrial view lying behind it.

All in all, pretty whimsical & fun works.  Very enjoyable!

My choice of meat in Gozo…

I’d like to think he had a happy & content after-life:

Ranting Rascals

ranting_monsters

Yesterday, I broke into a rant, and these are the monsters that spew out when that happens. Not pretty – but a generally good reflection of my mood when I’m at it. Still, I’m glad I got them out of the way.

For now, at least.

Brriiingg!!

Yep. Have been a bit distracted of late as I’ve recently acquired a new addition to my brood. Her name’s Scarlett, and she kinda looks something like this:

Scarlett
(Well for now that is til I get a better picture of her!)

Its an amazing ladies town bike and although its single gear, she does the job and rides really comfortably on the pot-holed roads of London, that with an amazing peal of a bell.

Now all London duly needs is to provide us with some of these amazing bicycle underground parks they have in Tokyo’s Kasai Train Station for a peace of mind when we’re out and about:

(Kinda feels reminiscent of the scene of Monsters Inc where they went into the warehouse of doors?)

Twas in Alaska…

Was recently enjoying a month-long retreat in Alaska taking in the fresh air and its beautiful scenery. Lots of wild & sea life spotting around coupled with a few glacier excursions out & about. Here’s the lot that we managed to see:

Another discovery on the trip was about First Nation’s culture, and the fascination I have for the graphical nature of their art.

Graphic, simplified forms, with a minimal colour scheme to convey a self-contained narrative – characteristics that I’m always intrigued by and how others achieve it.

For example, Wayne Edenshaw’s  Eagle & Scallop (left) and Dick Beau’s (right) treatment of the Bears:

Check out Path Gallery  to find out more about the symbolisms of the animals or to explore other artists works.

On a seperate note, did you know that there is a town called Chicken in Alaska?? (Yep, been there!)

Big Fish

Don’t quite remember how I came across it, but found the folks that did those lovely packaging of and Dorset Cereals on your supermarket shelves – Big Fish. Good to discover the minds behind the design!

Portishead

Went to the Portishead gig at Hammersmith Apollo. Was awesome!!! Although I may look into investing in a pair of “Gig” shoes which give extra height to get a better view of the stage. (Pictures courtesy of Dave’s phone. Thanks!)
