Twas in Alaska…

Was recently enjoying a month-long retreat in Alaska taking in the fresh air and its beautiful scenery. Lots of wild & sea life spotting around coupled with a few glacier excursions out & about. Here’s the lot that we managed to see:

Another discovery on the trip was about First Nation’s culture, and the fascination I have for the graphical nature of their art.

Graphic, simplified forms, with a minimal colour scheme to convey a self-contained narrative – characteristics that I’m always intrigued by and how others achieve it.

For example, Wayne Edenshaw’s  Eagle & Scallop (left) and Dick Beau’s (right) treatment of the Bears:

Check out Path Gallery  to find out more about the symbolisms of the animals or to explore other artists works.

On a seperate note, did you know that there is a town called Chicken in Alaska?? (Yep, been there!)
