Purple Pedals Project

Ever since Scarlett entered my world – I’ve been obsessed with all things (urban) cycling. This might be old news by now, but was super intrigued by this cycle project that has made its rounds in the cycling blogs – the Yahoo! Purple Pedals Project.

A concept borne from Yahoo’s Buzz Marketing team and executed by Uncommon Projects, these bikes when ridden will automatically snap pictures and upload onto flickr every 60 seconds – real time.

Each picture is tagged with the bike’s GPS location viewable on Yahoo’s interactive map. These bikes have been shipped to 12 locations around the world, including Tanzania, Denmark, Tokyo, Lebanon, and England. Impressively, the tech gear is weather-proofed, solar & dynamo powered . Check out some of the images the bike has taken here and the community it shares it with.

From a marketing perspective, it makes sense:

” Compared to traditional marketing it’s a hell of a lot cheaper. It’s also more novel–instead of talking about innovation it actually makes innovation, creating self-generating press along the way…it’s novel and it’s even helpful in that it lets riders document and share their rides with everyone. Finally, it underscores a commitment to fun and innovation that dovetails nicely with the larger marketing message that Yahoo wants to communicate.”

And in true spirit of open-source, the folks at Uncommon Project have written a behind-the-scenes on their blog as well as releasing the source code for DIY-ers out there. I want one!

The Ferners & Cadence – X’mas wrappers

Last year, I made some x’mas wrappers each with an iconic resemblance of the receipient’s to wrap their presents with. The wrapped presents were then nicely composed and taken on Dave’s  iPhone.  Alas, during transfer, the aliens have somehow zapped the transmitted particles in transit to the computer, resulting in image data being lost. Big fat POO.

In any case, thought I would redo the iconography of the family members again for use in future wrapping…

First post for 2009…

Oopss! This update arrives 3 months later then its original intended date. … Plenty of excuses but its really down to one terrible sin – Procrastination. There’s definitely some stuff I’ve been busy with and the fear of  migration to a new platform but all in all, think its better late then never!

Anyways whats the plan? I’ve finally gotten round to upgrading to WordPress 2.7.3 (from 2.0) using this handy Instant Upgrade plug-in which made the transition seamless. (Although this feature has now been integrated with WordPress 2.7 onwards). And boy o boy, do I really enjoy the new updated interface. Well done Happy Cog!

Hopefully this year will see me doing more posts as a documentation process of what I’ve come across on the web that I like and would like to remember (as previously I’ve always hesitated putting stuff up here thinking it was not entirely relevant).

And yes. I’ve been twittered up – Find me @shunnyzon
